I relate so much to this. Soup, too. My mom always said it's done when the pot is full and I've been known to resemble that. Soup freezes pretty well but not potato salad so I never make potato salad unless we're have a bunch of people over. Potato salad and watermelon. The foods that mandate a party...

We have a lot of black walnut trees around here. The squirrels devour them. I remember when I first saw the green ball type outer casing they have. I didn't know what the heck it was. LOL.
I have several HUGE trees in my back yard. Hickory, I believe. And I despise the nuts. These are huge nuts and also covered in an outer green shell. I’ve tried to crack them, but it’s almost impossible to do. I even looked up how to crack hickory nuts thinking I might could make some money off these things. Nope, I’m not gonna subject myself to that aggravation in order to try to make money.

I’ve already shot out two from under the lawnmower and shattered one large picture window and put a good sized hole in another. I can’t walk in my back yard because they are a trip hazard. Seriously! For me anyway. I actually have two sizes of nuts, come to think of it and the smaller ones are the nuts I go slip sliding on...all the way down the hill. My feet have actually zipped right out from under me on multiple occasions. My whole back yard is probably a 30* slope and my coops are built at the top of it soooo, there ya go. I have no other choice than to fight them. Many years I’ve tried raking them up, which isn’t an easy task. And then I have to haul them off to the back pasture one wheelbarrow load at a time. They don’t burn! I’ve tried. :barnie Truly, these things are a PIMA.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do? These trees will be here long after I’m gone so I’ve just got to learn to live with them.

Everybody knows gumbo has to start with a good roux. Dont worry celery was there but added later.

Luuuuuuccckkyyyyyyy!!! I’m jealous lol do you have elderberries too?

Oh wow! I think that’s what’s happened with our raspberries lol
Yes, elderberry grows wild here but I haven't found any on our property. Ditto on pawpaws. We do have shagbark hickory trees and black walnuts, though.

Very true!! Lol so who’s bringing the watermelon? :lau

@sdm111 So what time should we all be there?

It's puhcon for me. All muns, I have a tendency to drop the d at the end. Not always but most of the time. Pray lean (praline) is correct (and are yummy!). ! I always say en-velope. Not IN or ON. EN. So, EHN? Anyways... who says EYE talian? That sounds like a really bad Gone With The Wind type southern accent. At least in my head it does lol! Why yes I will have the salad with some eye-tail-i-yun (sound it out lol) dressing on the side.... :gig

That's too funny!
My mom says Eye-talian, and most of the Kansas folk said it too. ;) I purposefully changed how I said it to eh- since eye sounded wrong.
