i knew I'd read something that had me thinking I had a good chance at getting an olive egg. This is where I ordered my eggs from. Also, I have read more info in them, did a good bit of research actually but don't want to misquote and can't remember all my resources.

Ive always been told F2 is the best bet for the darkest olive color. I do think the probability goes down, but still had my hopes up. I was thinking that if I didn't get an olive egg I'd at least get something a little darker.

Crossing F1 olive eggers can produce blue egg layers, brown egg layers, green egg layers and even white egg layers. The odds of getting a darker olive egg layer by breeding F1s together is very poor. The reason it doesn't work is because there is no olive egg color gene. It is a combination of a blue egg gene and various brown egg genes.

I do understand that. My misunderstanding was what an f2 was. I didn't realize it was an f1 crossed back to an f1. If I'm making sense.

Isn't MPC a middle man for most things? I thought they were selling a little of their own, some they get from private breeders, and some they get from other hatcheries (Meyer especially).

I've read that they are a middle man type situation, but I don't know all their sources. They just had oe and I could order a small amount of eggs which is all I wanted. And they'd shipped free so I just rolled with it. Other than trying their eggs (twice) I haven't ever gotten anything from them. And I do not know the true source of those eggs.
