➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have been holding off posting in the hopes of better news, but I am losing hope by the day.

My flock is gone. Something (I can only assume dogs) tore open the run and damaged one of the coops on Saturday. 1 hen was dead when I found her, 1 hen was injured but alive. The other 7 (my rooster, the last hen, and all 5 pullets) are still missing. No other bodies have been found, but there are feathers from everyone strewn throughout the run. I am absolutely shattered.

Oh noooooo! I have no words. :hit:hit:hit I am so very sorry! :hugs

Thanks Tes. I truly appreciate your insight.

We have a great vet clinic down the road that takes livestock and fowl plus cats and dogs. They are fantastic people and very thorough.

Blossom did better tonight! Ate some of the fortified slurry Sam recommended (Thanks Sam! You rock!) and some more egg. Drank a little water, put up an impressive resistance to her meds, then went to sleep in her crate. Baby steps.
I know I’m not really helping, but talking is all I know how do to and I feel awful for you.
I’m so glad she got something down, I bet she’ll have her appetite back within 48 hours. She’s lucky to have you.
Here she is poor baby.

I hope she does too. Although, if she turns out to be the sole survivor, I will probably rehome her to one of my friends. Maybe try getting chickens again next year.
What a sweet girl.
Looks like a dog bite to me.. I’m sure she was literally shaken pretty good. She must be so sore.
I wouldn’t think a coyote would let her live.. but I wonder why they were all taken? Multiple dogs?

Totally understandable. It took me several years to get back into chickens when I lost my flock.
:hugs

It is part of the great and awful mystery. Were they all killed/ carried off? Or did some escape and are holed up somewhere?

And thanks. I am glad someone understands. Several good friends and family members have already offered replacement birds but I just am not ready to try again yet.

@CSAchook so sorry to hear about your chickens! It just sickens me that your loss was so huge. Sure hope the hen continues to improve. It is good to hear she is eating and drinking now.

Sunday I picked up my California sister at the airport and took her to my Norman, OK sister whose hubby is undergoing chemo. We had a really bitter/sweet visit before I took her back to the airport on Monday. BIL has a really positive practical open-eye view of his future. He knows the outcome just hopes his treatment gives him more time with his family. His mental strength and sense of humor enhance the fire in his fight to attain that goal.

Aww. I’m glad y’all get to visit with them often. Your BIL sounds like a truly amazing person.. praying for him and his family.

How are YOU doing, Nana?
How’s your beautiful dogs, and handsome Boomer?
I think of you every time I water my plants haha. Gardening is hard!

@CarpCharacin
Have you seen this yet?
Coming October 15th.

It looks cool, but I ended up with a Pixel 3 last year, which I'm happy with, after I kept returning other phones due to inconsistent screens. For my birthday this year, I'm getting a kit for a nice keyboard, since I think having a good computer keyboard is just as important as a phone.
