➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Ted. :gig
Yea, not cheap for our pups either.
Try looking for some mobile vaccine clinics near you. They often sell preventative for cheap(er), but you have to provide proof of a recent heartworm test and preventative.
Most clinics provide discounts for buying in bulk. We usually bite the bullet and buy a year’s supply and often get a month or two for free.
Ted, oh boy. :th

I was bathing Kevin and BYCing at the same time. Kevin and his issues are a whole ‘nother story. :caf

Well, I usually just put it in a treat lol

That doesn’t sound so hard! Although that said, the Heartgard ones look soft, like chewables, rather than a pill so maybe she would just eat it on her own?? She LOVES treats LOL

Maybe I can trick her.

And wait really? Practically everything is available online these days, surely pet meds would be too??

Luna loves treats so I wonder if she would eat the Heartgard ones.... they look like treats rather than pills.

And yeah, I might ask about that

You can buy heartguard online through petmeds but your animal has to be seen by a vet first in order to have the heartworm test done. After that, you can elect to go via online instead of through the vet. I'm just not sure "how" because I have never done so.

It just takes some practice. Some owners get squeamish when you restrain their pets.

Heartgard is a flavored chewable but some animals won’t eat it. If she likes it then go for it. :)

I’m sure you can buy it online but you cannot do the test at home...

I have restraining her down to a fine science haha have to for the flea meds or have someone hold her, for nails I wrap her burrito style in a towel which she hates but it’s effective, but my favorite method and the one that I would probably use for giving her pills if I had to is to kneel on the floor and put her between my legs. She can’t get away that way but it’s gentle and she really doesn’t put up any fight. I figured out how to do her ears, eyes, and teeth in one fell swoop this way. Very fast and effective.

And that makes sense! Not sure if she would eat it or not since I’ve never tried it but maybe I should try it? It’s pretty cheap for 6 months and I could probably force it down if she wouldn’t chew it? Or do chewables not slide?

And ahhh okay. I thought you were saying you couldn’t buy preventative online and I was like that’s weird, I was just looking at it?? :lau

Sorry for the confusion. I was not asking about buying the test online, I would of course take her in for that, I was asking about buying preventative online. I was just thinking it might be cheaper online.

There is now an injectible heartwork treatment that is good for either 6 months or 12 months. Depends on which shot is available and/or you choose. It does go by weight so I don't know how much it would cose for your dog but if that is something that interests you (do it and forget it for a yr type thing), you can always ask the vet about it. It's what I did for one of my dogs so far (the other 2 already have their meds bought).
It is called ProHeart12 (moxidectin).
This vet office didn’t offer the injection, plus we have to weaken the worms first by killing the bacteria that lives on them with doxycycline.

I will say, that I was so so so thankful for this vet office. We’re already $1000+ in vet bills from the past month and a half with everything that has been going on and they made sure that they asked if we approved any tests for the prices before they did them. (They didn’t even know that we were tight on money!) so I loved it. They also were super accommodating on Ruger and never pushed anything, or him. They earned our business.

Thanks! That makes sense!!

Our current vet is a little salesy sometimes so I wonder if they would even give me a prescription to do it online.... I know Gator’s old vet probably would but Luna doesn’t go there anymore. No reason in particular, he was/is great, just that Luna needed grooming a couple years ago due to mats and none of the pet stores would take her so we ended up here and stuck with them cause they’re pretty great.
