I was agreeing with you. Saying that I could never do it that way either.

I’m gonna do it. I’d just rather do it right. And I have way more important things to do right now.

And I also haven’t had any time this week due to said important things and won’t until Sunday. I’ve been ridiculously busy since we set it up.

Besides, there is no way all of them will fit on there anyway. But yes, I know I can at least put the ones that do fit on there for now, so that’s what I’m planning to do when I have the time.

Go read what you actually wrote. You said having them disorganized would drive you crazy but also that (if you did that) you would never fix them because once they were off the floor they would not bother you anymore. That makes no sense. And whether or not they will all fit is irrelevant.

And yeah, my books are meticulously organized. I do think organizing them is a good idea in the long run. It isn’t an excuse for not starting at all. Putting them on the shelves is very easy. Organizing my books took a long time. In the meantime, while I was working on that process, the books were still on shelves where they belong.

I am all for “doing things right the first time” but I know from experience that focusing on a need for perfection is a very easy way to talk yourself out of doing anything at all. Getting something done is better than nothing.

It has not been two months. But I do get the logic/point there. But the bookshelves didn’t even get here until a few days ago.

I ordered them and had to wait for them to be delivered to the store. They weren’t in store.

And before that, I had no bookcases. I just happened to find those ones by accident.

So even if I had sorted them when I was supposed to, I couldn’t have done anything with them. Unless maybe I went out and bought one. I should have bought one sooner I suppose.

But anyway, yes, I have put off sorting the books but now that I have the bookshelf I would rather just do it all at once.

The logic there is that I don’t want to have to put them all on the shelves only to have to pull them all off again and totally redo it the next day or whenever.

And they’re not just thrown on the floor. They’re neatly stacked in the corner so they really are not in the way.

And like I mentioned, they won’t all fit in the bookshelf anyway and I am not even sure I want these ones now so there would still be books on the floor even if I went and threw them on there right now.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t still bother me. Just that I know myself and I know that once they were out of sight on the shelves, I’d probably forget about organizing them. They can still bug me even if I don’t fix it right away ha

And I do see the point there but for the record, I’m not talking about some crazy complicated organization task or implementing the entire Dewey Decimal system or alphabetizing or anything like that. All I want to do for now is get them at least in basic categories. Like dog books, self help, gardening, etc. I want to be able to find things easily before putting them up there. I don’t want to just throw them up on it.

I’m not talking about perfectionism or anything. Just very basic sorting by category.

I am a perfectionist with a lot of other stuff so I get how it can lead to not starting things and I get that I’ve talked a lot with no action, etc. but that is not the case this time. I’m fully intending to do it Sunday. So I’d rather just wait till then. And even if I didn’t, I don’t have the time until then.

And as for that last sentence, normally I agree. And in something like essays or cleaning a room or laundry or something I would agree that a little bit is better than nothing but I guess that’s where I differ on this task. I don’t think just throwing them on a shelf is accomplishing anymore than having them neatly piled on the floor. In fact, I’d say it could even be an excuse for not organizing them and putting that task off. Which I don’t want to do. Because I want to do it Sunday.
