➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I can tell you that saving your receipts is a good idea but in the end it's probably not going to be worth it.
The standard deduction is going to be way more than the amount of receipts you're going to be able to save.

Do I need to remind you what I do for a living?

I should have used the word did because I'm not currently doing this but I did for many years.

I actually don’t think you have ever told me what you did haha or maybe I just forgot. But I really don’t think you ever did :lau

And that makes sense. I think. Idk. Can I write off the car if/when I get a new one?

Writing down the serial numbers might be overkill, but the banker I talked to about setting up a business account seemed uncomfortable that I'm pretty much an all cash business. I don't know what else to do. So I'm writing down the numbers on the receipt. If you have a better idea please share.

That makes sense. For mine, it’s mostly checks but I do have one client that it’s cash but it’s only like 20 bucks per visit and I only visit once a week usually, twice a week as needed. Lately it’s been more twice a weeks.

It’s still such a small amount though.

And sometimes I get gifts :lau

Do you deposit your cash money into a bank account?

I usually store it in a certain hiding spot in the house but just recently I deposited all of it. Sometimes I am bad about taking cash out of the hiding spot and spending it.

Whoa what's this writing down dollar bills serial number business... That is nuts.

Glad it is not just me that thought that cause I was worried maybe I was just lazy or something not wanting to do that haha

Don't over think small business bookkeeping.
One bank account.
Keep it simple.
Only money that is earned from this business goes in to it...period.
That is the simplest way to keep track of income and expenses.

Idk, it’s a really popular service and seems like a reputable business so

I think it’s probably one of those things that’s super great and convenient for the client and super shitty for the person providing the services haha

Kind of like how Spotify is AWFUL to musicians and pays them like nothing but yet everybody uses Spotify, myself included even though I know this  , and it’s super convenient.

It seems like a good idea but I don’t think it’s worth it for me to join it because they take such a big percentage.

But it does seem like a good service for the clients haha

They have great search tools and you can search for exactly what you need, be it a walker or sitter or boarder or whatever, and can choose the exact dates, prices, your location, and see who’s available those dates and compare and even read reviews and stuff, it’s a great service for the customer but doesn’t seem so great for the employee haha

I think if I am smart about it I could just set up a Facebook page or an Instagram or something, maybe both, maybe a nice website, and print some business cards, and build my business that way without involving Rover. Maybe ask my current clients to review me on the FB page or something or just plain tell their dog owning friends (word of mouth). I am sure Rover is not necessary.

I just need to get some insurance first and then start building.

Although I was reading something about creating a separate business name versus just using your personal name and I think I was reading for taxes or something it’s better to use your regular name?? Or at least that you don’t have to set anything up?? Something about llc and proprietary and all that stuff I think haha

I am a retired accountant.
I worked for a CPA firm for many years.
:D

Wait!? Retired!? How!? You’re so young!

Yeah, I think this is what I will do. It seems easiest.

I have a savings account with the bank now so I guess I need to open another savings account or maybe a checking account?? And should I use the new one for the business or make this the business one?

This may get confusing and I'm not going to explain it in detail but you won't be incorporating a business.
You can get a DBA.

This isn't important.

A what??

And okay, that’s good to know it’s not important cause when I was researching starting a business they made it seem really important and there were a lot of articles on which one was best to use/start as and what they meant/which one to use for what type of business and stuff like that honestly between that and reading all the tax information, it got really confusing and intimidating

I read all that a while ago and kinda gave up cause it was so intimidating haha

Yes, but it's also my personal account, I didn't have enough cash for the minimum balance for a new business account. I might have enough now from selling turkeys, I need to go through my numbers again.

This would be the ideal situation, but not what happened..

That's fine.
Just keep a simple notebook.
It works too.
