➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Got to hang out with this cutie today. :D

DB & SIL dropped him off as they had to take Libby to the vet which was about an hour away. He was here about 4 1/2 hours. We had fun hanging out and went on a little walk too. :)

He did not appreciate the photo shoot though and just wanted to walk :lau

It was nice having a dog around again too haha even when he was just on the floor sleeping and we weren’t directly interacting, it’s just nice/comforting having him there. :love

I visit them all the time but there’s just something different about having a dog just there in your house.

Rover isn't a scam. It takes money and infrastructure to run an online business that people trust. They absolutely take their cut.
When you sign up with Rover, you are basically an independent contractor. They cover insurance and are liable for anything that happens. With how insane people are about their pets these days, that's no small task. Yes, it is MUCH cheaper to get your own insurance and an LLC, but it is not easy to gain a client base.
Because you are considered an independent contractor, you are self employed, which means you have to pay that tax too.
My bestie does this for a living. She takes up to 8 dogs a day, and is often fully booked. She does not make a ton of money. She would make more working full time at McDonalds, but she is happy.

This is really helpful!! Thank you for this! Nice to hear from someone who actually does this and has experience with it. Seems much more feasible. And that’s exactly my thing; I probably could make more money doing something else but I love dogs and would rather be working with them. Although I do probably need to get a regular one at first to pay for the start up costs? Although I already have a few clients who I’m sure would be more than happy to provide references and help me get others. Maybe I should do Rover. Idk. Since I already have a couple clients maybe it would be easier to get more without Rover? But Rover has such a wide reach it really is helpful.

Id like to add that in that log make sure you have all your clientele contact info in case something happens to your phone. Shit happens.

Yeah, I think I remember reading on their site they don’t pay it. Seems like kind of a scam then haha they probably take it to pay for running the app and pay their employees though, I guess they have to make money somehow, but it used to only be like 10 or 15 percent. They’ve gotten a bit greedy I think.

The good thing about Rover though is that like everybody seems to use the app now so it would be easy to find clients and almost seems necessary to compete since most other people do it.

Also clients can book directly through the app/website and you can also mark yourself unavailable if you’re busy certain days all of which is really nice and I really like and almost think it is well worth it especially with as much as I hate phones.

They also have their own insurance which is nice because I wouldn’t have to buy my own or worry about it .

But between their cut and the percentage taken for taxes, I am going to be losing quite a lot of money if I do that so I really would probably be better off just getting my own insurance. I don’t know. I need to think about it. It’s a lot to think about. Rover does have a lot of benefits and good features but it also has some very big negatives.

Maybe I could even just use Rover temporarily to gain some more clients and then branch off on my own later??
To work with Rover wouldn't you have to sign a contract? This would preclude you from leaving Rover and taking clients with you.

That is an excellent idea!! Thank you!! Maybe I’ll even go write down the current client’s info right now haha

I actually have experience with phone issues. My last phone shit the bed and I lost out on a potential job (same client, they had just asked if I could do an extra day that week) cause of it and that’s when I decided I needed a new one and got this one.

I don’t think you do but idk.

I should probably look into it.

I know when you’re using it they say to have people only book through their site and not do it off Rover but idk about when you leave. And even that isn’t really a contract, just them rambling about how it’s safer and better for everyone to try to convince you of it haha

I’m gonna look into this now.
