➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Cackle and Purely Poultry both sell a small number of sexed bantam breeds (cochins, old english game, and brahmas plus a few others I forgot). We will definitely get some of the cochins but not sure what else. Whenever we decide to get another rooster though I want a bantam english game. I also love the look of d'uccles.

What do you have??? And do you keep a rooster? Is he full sized or bantam?
I have a bantam cochin, a couple OEGB hens, a couple of mutts (my favorites), and a mutt bantam rooster (silkiexOEGB). He's the coolest little guy, and the ladies love him. All the girls hunker for him except my cream Brabanters. They only hunker for me.
My cochins are awesome, but be prepared for the broodiest birds on the freaking planet. Like, seriously... NON STOP. They are excellent brooders, and amazing mother hens. Unfortunately, they are slower than my other little dudes and many have fallen prey to small hawks. After my last hen passes, I will be moving away from the feathered leg varieties in favor of the gamier types.

Not yet but my dad put the fence around the dog house the other day by himself. He just wants to move them outside ASAP without fixing the doghouse first or building a coop or anything. :th

Doghouse is way too small for all of them but may work temporarily. But it definitely needs some fixes first. :th

He’s in a hurry to get them out and I don’t blame him but now he’s made more work for himself because I’m gonna make him move it.
Kiki told you to get the coop built long ago. It is your responsibility, not your father's.

Here are a few pics of a few of them. The absurdly tiny orange things are the OEGBs. They're like the size of robins.

@CSAchook I have a few bantams

One is a sebright and the other is a bantam golden lace polish. The sebright rooster is my favorite, he is so cocky.

They are both adorable! :love
I am wary of getting feather heads because I always keep such a mixed flock. Don't want them getting picked on. Sebrights though :love:love:love

I had big cochins before so I am prepared for all the broodiness haha. And our egg needs are low. Are the games sweet? Friendly to people?

We are getting a hotwire fence installed before we get anymore birds. And hawks in our areas seem to focus on very small juvenille birds. Good points though. Will have to consider not letting them free range until they are big enough.

She is the only one like that and no one picks on her. I only have 2 bantams and the biggest chicken I have is my black jersey giant rooster. They all get along

The games are neat birds. Mine aren't sweet, but they are curious. They aren't skittish, just not lap birds like cochins. They are also still very young and not laying yet. Perhaps they will warm up a bit once they start. My mutts are friendly, though.

WHAT responsibility!! There wont be any of that aggression talk round here!! Totally uncalled for

You guys can quit it with this shit. I never once said it was his responsibility to build it or that he should fix the doghouse. But my parents have nixed every single idea I have had for a coop or location and refuse to even take me to buy the supplies to build it. And yes, I DO need them for that because I don’t have a car that can fit that stuff in it. I have told them numerous times that I will buy everything and I will build everything myself if they don’t want to help. Doesn’t seem to matter. And yes, I probably should not have gotten the eggs before I had it built, I know that’s 100% on me, but I had no way of knowing they would drag their feet so much on this. I know I usually do procrastinate on everything/don’t do what I say, but I DID NOT want to procrastinate on this. In fact, I have been trying to get this thing built since before the eggs even hatched because I wanted to avoid this exact situation. But they refuse to do it. I can’t exactly build anything with no supplies....

And he put the fence in that spot without talking to me so yes it is going to need to be moved. I’ll move it by myself if I have to.

And I will gladly fix the doghouse myself too. Never said he should fix it. Just that it needs to be fixed. Since he doesn’t seem to think so, I WILL probably end up fixing it by myself.

My animals are the one thing I am responsible about and care about more than myself. I would have had this thing built months ago if it was up to me. But it’s not.

That said, since they do seem to refuse to help, I’m going to have to come up with something different.

The doghouse may just have to do for now.
