➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Okay.

So you put them in the dirt, on the dirt, and how much water???
Neither.
I just throw them I this pot. (I will throw a little bit of dirt on top of the seed but other than that I don't do anything special.)
I have no idea what's sprouting in there now.
I forgot. You can see an old rotten avocado seed that didn't make it in the pot too.

I throw mine in the chicken yard, when they start trying to open, shove them into a planter. Looks like the freeze last November got mine, though. We are leafless. See if they come back. The satsuma isn't looking so hot either although the moringa is doing well. The bananas are trying to come back, but the climate keeps changing.

You may have to move south. Stop when you get to the big water.

Anyone want to guess on sexes?

Yellow and Little Richard (red) in the back with Fuzzy in front. Approaching 6 weeks.

Fuzzy has gotten bigger than Little Richard.
I agree with R2elk. Might change Little Richard to Richinda.
Based on size difference and comb. If the tail feathers have pointed tips...cockerel. If the tips are rounded, then pullets.
Yours look very much like my naked necks at this age.

Yellow and Little Richard are pullets while Fuzzy is a cockerel.
I agree.

I don't even use bug poison anymore. I use my ducks and chickens to get rid of the unwanted bugs though.

We have a Japanese beetle problem in the spring and summer so I'm thinking about moving my garden to another area and putting the ducks in there so they can keep ALL bugs off my stuff.

I'll have a plan b too... Pots on the porch with veggie plants incase the ducks destroy everything😂
My ducks ate every seedling that came up...Pak choi, cabbage, spinach, carrot, lettuce, peas, green beans etc. had to put 24" tall chicken wire around my box beds to keep them out.

This one is 11 weeks and I don't want it to be a cockerel... I'm quite positive it is though

Seems to have cockerel spur buttons, pointed feathers.....but comb and wattles look pullet.

I'm sure the mystery eggs I got from our rooster lover friend are all cockerels because he wants all the cockerels 😂 It's a great friend to have when you don't want anymore cockerels unless for meat.
I sold 41 cockerels and 41 duck because I didn't have time to process while working on taxes and moving to the rent house for the house remodel. Very relieved that I did that.

It's a jersey giant barred rock cross. It's from one of the eggs I incubated from my flock.

I can't put another cockerel in with Squatch and HeiHei, I don't want fighting or the girls to get over mated. If we had 5ish acres they could roam on, I would consider it.
There are 60 birds in the layer room...10 of those are roosters...only three are cockerels. The older cocks keep the younger boys in line...no overbreeding is allowed. They make their own smaller flocks to free range.
With all the space we have around the barn, lots, equipment, yards and pastures....my birds probably free range over a 150 yard circle. That does not involve our huge garden and excludes the footprint of the house, barn and small out buildings....

7000 sq ft but I still don't think it's wise to throw 3 boys together and stress the girls out. I'm actually making it even bigger in a few weeks. That's my birthday gift to myself 😂
You should have plenty of space.

How do you get the avocados to sprout????
In winter, I use the toothpicks stabbed into the side of the seed and suspend the seed in a cup of water, or set it in 1/2 inch water in a container in the window. In spring and summer, I put the seed 2 inches deep in a mixture of potting soil and compost in a pot. Set pot in a tray and keep sponge moist.

Moldy.:hit

I will try again.

Pull that seed out of the trash! You have a root tip!
Use either rubbing alcohol or bleach wate or vinegar to kill that mold. Put that seed in soil at least 2 inches deep and keep sponge moist. In your temperate zone, you should see a sprout quicker than I will. My pots are in my hot tub room sitting in a tray.

I didn't damage this seed.
:celebrate

I wonder if I could put this one in my incubator.View attachment 2004044

Looks like this one may have a thin root...if so carefully keep it attached and go ahead and pot it up. Remember to place it spoon side down. The seedling root pushes the seed up thru the soil and the rounded side splits open for the sprout.

Looks like you will soon have two Mango trees if you rescue that first seed.
