➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Can they fly? I'm just wondering if I did a 4 ft fence if they'd be fine.
They may fly enough to escape a short fence when young. If they do, it won’t be all of them and the accidental escapees will wander desperately along the fence line longing to get back in with their friends. At this point (almost a year old) they’re to heavy to even hop. I let them out every day. They piddle about the place. They have no desire to run away. None of the domestic geese can fly, but when young some may be able to hop—probably 4 ft would be too high for them, though.

I have a 30-ft by 40-ft dog kennel that I can use for them until they are bigger and I can put them with the ducks. My ducks are being moved out of the chicken area because they are driving my chickens crazy 😂

I was just reading the bamboo thread. I think that I may plant some around my runs. Anything to help soak up the water around there.
Great idea! I was thinking willows, but fodder would be a great addition to bog-control. We had flooding last year, which isn’t the norm, but there’s no harm in planting a thirsty grove of yummy bamboo by the chicken village just in case.

LOL That is exactly what I do when it gets cold enough to freeze. Great minds think alike I guess.

:highfive:

I fermented my feed for awhile, then just got lazy and gave dry feed. I just kept 3 plastic containers with lids on the kitchen counter and numbered them 1,2,3. I put the feed and water in a container each day. ON the morning of day 4, I gave the chickens the feed in #1 then refilled it and put it at the end of the row. The next day, #2 and so on, just rotating the containers with daily feed- so that it fermented for 3 days before feeding. I can do that with the few chickens I have. They did seem to do better - shiny feathers, less smelly poop, and ate and wasted less. I may dig out the old containers and do it again.

That sounds like a good plan!!

My nurses name today is Kelsey 😂 I've known her for 7 years and I'm happy I have her as my nurse today.

Awesome!!

My father sent me this... I'm obsessed with these pink flower trees that they have on their street and I always get so happy when they start blooming. They're blooming now 😍 life is coming back to Virginia View attachment 2019557

Oh boy...kDog was up all night Googling. I just know it.
Yeah and Google makes me laugh. It's the worse place to look if you've been diagnosed with anything
I bet she had nightmares last night after her googling episode.
She probably bathed in Lysol 😂 my dad was creeped out last night too about the bacteria he's like I don't have it...then he looked it up and was like so you're telling me I have this bacteria and it can kill me 😂 I couldn't stop laughing

:lau :gig :lau

Nopeeeeeee!!!! Was binging on Netflix lol

I actually slept pretty well. Or so I thought. Not sure now cause I woke up sore and with a headache and wicked watery/irritated/painful eyes.

But I did take a shower which seemed to help haha

@Tesumph

Did y'all get the nasty white stuff last night?

OMG

Brother in law's son had a strep infection that turned into sepsis in his bloodstream and settled in his heart. J had heart surgery two weeks ago to replace two damaged valves in his heart. Dr almost didn't do the surgery because J had damage to his liver three years ago from heavy drinking. He has been sober since...so doctors approved him for surgery. Has been in rehab and now approve to go home.

Oh wow how scary!!!

My mom got sepsis after a dentist visit, so that makes a lot of sense.

I used to have to take antibiotics before the dentist because I had a heart murmur but then it went away.

Yeah I don't go to the dentist anymore because I had wisdom teeth pulled and it turned into a blood clot in my cheek that the ER cut out with a scalpel.

I take really good care of my teeth so I can avoid them. Some dentists just are careless I guess

I need to take better care of mine haha but I’ve been lucky. Funny thing is I’m obsessed with washing my hands and will wash them a million times a day but then I’ll walk around barefoot outside and am sometimes bad about my teeth, etc. all of which are probably way more dangerous. :lau

Geese (and ducks) are very, very poopy. You’ll need a lot of litter.
