I think folks who use ducks also use raised beds. As for geese, people do use them for weeding, but I’m not clear on the specifics. Geese are vegans like you, but maybe you train them by not giving them any veggies you want to grow in the garden (and not growing strawberries or other irresistibles. I suspect they’re more useful in orchards or similar.

About this vegan goose thing... I very much read/heard/knew the same, but mine LOVE dried shrimp and mealies. I was not expecting that, but they follow me around in the afternoon until the handful is tossed out. How about yours? Any experience with this?

Don't worry, I know Japanese beetles very well. I grew up in SW PA. I have never missed them since I moved here. I greatly prefer my Wild Roses to Japanese beetles. No cicadas here either

Extremely stupid to get more birds.

Yeah I know but the fact that we will have an empty coop is killing me.... it is just begging to be filled.

I did just kinda hint to my dad about the fact we’ll have an empty coop soon and he actually said if I get a job I can get as many birds as I want, which is promising because up until now he’s said this isn’t a farm and was upset I didn’t tell him about the eggs, that we had so many, etc.

So that’s promising/progress BUT even with permission and the empty coop and run, I still feel like it’s stupid to get more. Like I feel like I should be downsizing instead. But idk.

They would also rather turn the old coop into a garden shed and/or put the chicken supplies in there which does make more sense than more birds but these breeds are super cool so idk.

I’m like almost positive I will cancel the order now though despite all my going back and forth on here because in reality I know it’s stupid but it’s also hard to because they are really cool and it’s not until mid April.

Also even though I’ve said I want to move ASAP, in reality I probably won’t until at least next year, so I do have time to get them and downsize later if I need but I should probably just avoid getting them in the first place and should maybe even sell or off some of my current birds.

The last thing you need to do is add another constant expense...more mouths to feed.

No, mine don’t seem interested, but I hadn’t been watching closely. I just believed what the books said... hmm... Yeah, doing that has never bit me in the butt. I’ll definitely have to take a closer look.
