How many chicks do you hatch in a given year? 50? 100?

The hen that hatched the ones above is probably 7 or 8 yrs old that's why she went broody on just 6 eggs. Usually it's around the normal 10-12 per clutch. I needed to have her hatch a few to keep her blood going. I imagine she wont be around too much longer. Or at least laying eggs

Some people have found that leaving a radio on can be calming to them. Of course I don't have that problem with my poults because I go out of my way to avoid imprinting them.

Oh Tes, I have a crazy (but with a happy ending) reptile story for you. Hoshi the gecko escaped from his tank! He squeezed through a gap in the top, and somehow made it down off the bookcase. DH and I spent 5 days practically tearing the house apart trying to find him. Finally DH spotted him last night. He was curled up under the water heater, totally fine and probably proud of himself. We caught him and he is back in his tank now peacefully sleeping after a big meal and a long drink. And I am buying a new, front opening tank with locks!!!

Oh goodness yes. We were freaking out as it was and we don't have any other pets besides the beardie. I can't imagine how worried we would have been if we still had a dog.

ETA: Hoshi has been grounded until I get a new, more secure tank for him. I took away all this climbing toys
