Erm.... it was cheese cake....Hm... what kind of cheesecake was it? New-York-style heavy stuff, or a lighter recipe?
Cream cheese can have a tang to it. Sour cream has a sour tang, too, and these two ingredients are sometimes used together in a cheesecake. Ricotta is a bit mellower, I think. Haven't had cottage cheese.

Erm.... I don’t remember..... it’s been many years. Was it dense like a lump of cream cheese (unwhipped)?
Insult away!No one insults cheesecake of any sort!!!
Not with just ricotta -- they put some in to balance out the density of the cream cheese. If one made a cheesecake with just blocks of cream cheese, it would be painfully dense. Adding ricotta or some other such curd cheese (like cottage cheese) and/or sour cream helps to lighten the cake and make it less heavy.Who the heck makes a Ricotta cheese cake?
Off them!
I'll even demolish jello instant cheesecakeCream cheese is what normal people use to make a cheesecake.
