Artemis hesitantly thought of an answer. "Well fortified, and guarded. The building has individual cells for prisoners without doors, but each prisoner is made to wear a bracelet so that if they attempt to leave the cell an invisible force at the doorway of the room will shock than with a great enough voltage to either knock them instantly unconscious, and for weaker prisoners, to their death. The guards, and whoever works within the building can, however, walk through the invisible force without being harmed." Artemis finished in solemn silence.
Amy listened intently to Artemis' explanation. So the place hadn't much changed. She had been there once, though it was many years ago, and technically she wasn't even supposed to have been on that level. "How did the guards treat you?" She asked casually, looking down at her book and feigning intense interest in the page.

"There was only one guard who watched over the section of cells I had been placed in. He could be harsh, sometimes, but he never hurt me." Artemis began to feel angry at herself for sounding like she was protecting Jaxson's intergrety. She paused to finish her coffee. "I am grateful to him for saving me while I was on the brink of death, although he admitted his reasons for doing so." Artemis corrected. She stood, and took the empty coffee cup to the sink where her back was turned to Amy so she couldn't see the emotions of fear and anguish that flooded her being at the thought of the pain she experienced at the moment she was sure that she would die.

Amy felt herself grow tense as Artemis went on, but she kept what she hoped was a calm, unsuspecting face till her guest finished. "And what were this kindly guard's reasons?" She asked gently. She was hoping that by asking these casual questions, she could get a name out of Artemis, but the girl seemed reluctant to give much detail on anything but the cells' preventative measures.

Artemis felt again as embarassed as she did when the pain had slightly subsided and momentarily she thought Jaxson had saved her simply because he cared for her. "He hoped by keeping me alive he could gain information about the Contenders." Her words now completely lacked emotion.

(XD I got plots)

"And is that unreasonable?" Amy asked. "Seems to me that it would be better that, then giving information by force to someone with a needle full of poison," she murmured, perhaps louder than she meant. Her sight blurred with tears, she sighed softly as she remembered. She lowered the book to her lap as the weight of it suddenly seemed too much.

Artemis tensed, and slowly turned to face Amy. "How did you know?" She inquired, voice lowering dramatically. She was sure she already knew the answer, but she wanted her assumption to be confirmed.

(Oh, no. What do you have planned for us this time :p I thought it would be cool if Artemis began to work at Amy's coffeeshop, and sometime afterwards Jaxson comes to sit down at the coffeeshop, not knowing Artemis is there, and they cross paths. Just an idea ;) )

"It was just a guess, and a good one, apparently," Amy said with a shrug, not wishing to delve into her own history right now. She had Artemis on track, but it seemed to be turning now.

(Great minds think alike XD. But I have other things in mind, too.)

Artemis wasn't completely convinced but she dropped the subject. She walked back the chair and allowed herself to relax.
