They have a funny flavor (something between sock and fish) but they smell amazing.
It's mostly a texture thing for me. I've never been super sensitive about that kind of thing, but mushrooms in my mouth make me sick.

The main complaints I've heard about mushrooms is that they have a weird texture or that they taste like nothing.

I am definitely one of those people that like the flavor but hate the texture. When I do cook with mushrooms, I mince them into itty bitty little pieces and hide them amongst the other ingredients.
