🐣🐄Black Copper Marans and Whiting True Blues. Lots of videosšŸŽ„

Thanks! My serama just turned broody but she’s quit midway before so I’ll wait until the next hatch to see if she’s serious before giving her chicks.

When I went to New York last year I bought 16 size 2 legbands for button quail chicks but didn’t use them so I’m planning to put them on zip ties for the chicks but will have to watch them closely so they don’t get too tight

I was more wondering how the round egg female, pointy egg male experiment goes. 🤨

I stuffed all the EE/OEs in the 360 at lockdown. Their a week old now and a few are showing lots of color. View attachment 4108243
Yes I should make sure those 5 ā€œmaleā€ eggs hatch separate. I could probably fit those 5 into that white container

Todays extreme example of shape index.

We are on lockdown now, I removed the turner and added water to bring it up to 50%. I tried to candle them all. 3 of the BCM eggs I bought were clear and removed. I didn’t really see much movement in the pure BcM eggs and not sure how many are vital. There’s 29 eggs total going into hatching mode.
I’m still undecided on if I should give some of these eggs to a broody now or after they hatch.

First one out of 29 in the incubator has hatched. One of the olive egger f1s. Maybe 6 or 7 others have pipped.
There’s some chicks that are hatched and cheeping under the broody, but I haven’t gotten a look yet.

Broody number 1 seems to have had a successful hatch. I’ve seen 4 pop their cute heads out from below.
Incubator is about at 14/29 so far. The pure BCM eggs not doing so good. None of the pointy ones have hatched and only 2 of the rounds have hatched.

Here’s some pics of the Easter egger hatchlings. All 10 hatched, but it looked like one died sometime after it had dried off.
The incubator hatch hasn’t gone so well. Only 3 out of 9 of the black copper marans eggs have hatched. And only 2 out of 7 of the whiting true blues hatched. I think 12 out of 13 of the olive egger f1s have hatched. So 17/29 in the incubator-not so good. One of the BCM ā€œmaleā€ eggs hatched a few hours ago, so maybe there will be some more stragglers.
I’m going to try and put the chicks under the broody hens under the veil of darkness. 13 total under each one.

Those broodies weren’t so drowsy and sleepy as I thought. They both gave me a good thrashing. The one in the pic above took the chicks without messing with them. The other broody it didn’t go so smooth. She started growling and pecking at the chicks in the dark. I moved her away and they settled into her nest, but she is sitting a few feet away. I’m going to go back out and check on them in a minute and see if she is taking them under her wing or if I need to take them out.
