1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens after my partner and I moved to a farm where there were 2 chickens previously. So we started learning about them as well as taking care of them. I also recently got 6 true blue whiting chicks for my birthday on June 5th of this year! Aka a birthday present from my partner lol, best present ever.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Two big hens and six 5-6 week old chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
True blue whiting chicks. For the two hens, one is a Rhode Island Red, the other is a leghorn.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Taking care of them has been a huge comfort and mood booster for me. Seeing them grow as well regardless of their age makes me happy. Theyāre fun to get as chicks because they can be influenced by your behavior, becoming as cuddly or friendly as you like!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to do nature photography with my partner who shares the same interest. Also instruments such as harp and violin. Fashion, Origami, paper crafting (aka card making), baking/cooking. Fitness, travel as well! I especially love baking/cooking from scratch or fresh home ingredients. I also like animal science studies as well as foreign culture studies, and some maths.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I come from a background of farmers/individuals whoāve previously owned and or currently own land. My great grandpa/great grandma on my moms side owned a very profitable farm, so Iām grateful to finally see the sort of lifestyle they lived. I own one fluffy cat as well as some ghost shrimp and small snails.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I saw this community because I raise chickens and thought Iāll go for it and love the answers and vibe Iāve seen from it!
