It does depend on the motion of the hands. Some motions will count as steps. I got a lot of steps once on a long drive LOL!It counts my vacuum cleaning strokes as steps, so who knows?

It counts all sorts of things, like stairs. One day I had a whole bunch of stairs but couldn't figure out why.Among “other, miscellaneous strokes” , including equine ones no doubt
It senses barometric pressure so stairs can be off on stormy days

I usually get 10 floors a day. We have stairs in the house and I am working from up here. When I am on campus, the building it 3 stories and I have to go up to the different floors each day so often get more than 10 floors a day.
