🔥☣️🏒The Sin Bin🏒☣️🔥

Okay... So I've got some eggs hatching right now. There are 11 Phoenix and 8 d'Uccle. For the most part things are going good, but 1 Phoenix is malformed. It couldn't stay on its feet when first hatched and would just roll over. Poor little thing. :(

I put it in a small bowl with a paper towel so it would stay straight up. By the time it dried/fluffed it was able to stand walk on its own. Yay little buddy! :highfive:

So as I said, it's malformed. The little chipmunk fluff ball has 5 toes on none feathered feet. The "dude with the eggs" night have a Dorking in his pin. S/G Dorks and Silver Phoenix hens are similar looking, but still I think it's got ree'ree feet. I saw the pin of breeders and they where nice, didn't notice any club foots.

That's not the only snaggel in its boogaloo. This little snafu also has a dink wing. Basically, it can only fly in u-turns. Red arrow is where the wing starts and direction it goes. Purple arrow is the tip/end of the wing. Yellow is the "normal (this thing is not normal) wing" with custom yellow feather art.

So I need some help... Not really sure what to do but... it needs a name.

WTF! How many toes are Phoenix supposed to have? Pete has 5, Repete has 5, and ReeRepete has 5. Did he give me the wrong eggs?!

Dorkings have five toes and phoenix do not, so if they all have five, yeah, I would assume he sent you the wrong egg or a bunch of accidental crosses :(

You might be able to straighten that wing back out if you can fashion something to hold it in the correct position. Their bones are malleable at this age. It's the same type of thing you'd do to fix splayed legs, so I think there's a chance it could work.

It's always strange to me when someone I've had an intelligent conversation with sees me talking like an idiot. I'm not that much of a redneck, I just play one on tv. ;)

Well thank you for clearing up the toe count, Pyxis. I forgot to mention the backwards wing is not fully formed. It's just the first section I believe, but it's only about 1/3 the size of the other wing.

Secretly, I'd much prefer them to be Dorkings, except I'm pretty sure the roo was an actual Phoenix. Hmmm. The guy I got the eggs from is pretty nice. Hopefully still so when I tell him he's got a problem

Hey, maybe you lucked into some Dorkings, lol. That would be nice if you've been wanting them.

Let us know what happens when you talk to the guy :pop

He's on his way to go count their toes as I type. In this guy's deference, he took over his family farm. I do not think he's always been in to poultry.

I'm hoping he doesn't have crossbred parent and it's just the chicks. If so I'm going to offer to "save the day" and buy his Dorking hens. I only paid $1 per egg so it's not like I was expecting show birds. Minus the one malformed bird, the rest are in good shape. In the end of the day, I got 11 chicks for $12.
