What is a sump?

It is a natural depression that collects runoff and the water table is so shallow that it remains full of water most of the year.

No bayous have bottoms. We call those sloughs

The difference is a bayou has a bottom and a slough has silt as its bottom which can be very think thick enough to jump out your boat and sink and drown. A bayou you can get out your boat and walk in mud that's usually not knee high. I wouldn't suggest testing either

I think bayous are much bigger. This dries up late in the summer. Even if something here matched the description of a bayou, it would not be called a bayou here.

This has bentonite as its bottom and is a muck that you just keep sinking into.
