🦆 The DUX has woken up! 🦆

Here's the video from this evening, when Sunny asked me to look after her ducklings, so that she could take a quick bathroom stop, grab a bite to eat and drink. I was able to record this video of the most yellow ducklings i have ever seen.
And take that @Magnolia Ducks, Sunny's ducklings are not fuzzy! 🤣
So sorry you didn't get any rare fuzzy ducklings.

They are so absolutely precious!!!

So no video update, but Sunny took her babies out to the duck-yard today, despite my well meant advice… 🙉
As expected it almost ended in tears. The one that hatched last got exhausted and i had to warm it up on my chest and under my hand for about an hour. Only one duckling made it back onto the patio and into the nest with Sunny, the rest sat peeping in front of the steps where i picked them up and delivered them to momma.
Fortunately she is very calm when i handle her yellow fluff-balls.
Pinball, Tweedledee and Laura have attacked me just for being too close to their offspring when delivering food, and don't ask what Darkbill and Minnie Duck did to me. Sunny seems to completely trust me with her little ones, a very new experience for me.

Update: I turned into a breaded cutlet!
Sunny took her ducklings out to the grass again, was harassed by Stibbel Entron and his drake-gang and during the hasty retreat five little ducklings ended up under the patio.
What do little ducklings do when they cannot see Momma Duck? - They follow her voice. Just bad when Momma's voice comes from above…
In the end i had to remove two floor-boards, squeeze myself down under the patio and drive the little ones back out, robbing on my belly. The soil under the patio is a bone-dry mix of sand and loam and it is hot and humid outside like in a roman steam-bath…

Note to myself: Build an out-door shower basap.

It might be cheaper Frank to build a separate enclosure for Sunny and her babies. Drakes can be brutal to ducklings because they want to mate the Hen. That's why my drake killed the one baby it was able to get ahold of as soon as it was born. I trusted it because the Mother duck wanted it to be with her and I found out it was a bad choice to let him. It was his offspring but he wanted her all to himself. She abandoned the eggs and none of the rest hatched out. Just a thought Frank. If you are fine climbing under the porch then keep up the good work, LOL.

I have boarded up all three sides of the patio with some scrap-wood i had, so no duckling can get under there by accident.
Already tried to fence off a part for Sunny, but remember there is also Harry and the five ducknagers sleeping on the porch. I don't want to kick the five out to the duck-house at the moment, because Laura Duck and her seven almost ducknagers make enough chaos overnight.
As for the drakes: They are not interested in the ducklings at all. They are just interested in Sunny… And then there's Harry: Everything that comes closer to his babies that a light-year will be investigated, evaluated and attacked if necessary. And his strength hat quadrupled with him being a proud dad:
I am accepted, i am allowed to touch the ducklings, even pick them up and huddle them, the ducknagers are (barely) tolerated if they stay away from the little ones. With Laura he has founded a fight club. While Laura and Harry are busy pushing each other's around and plucking feathers, the little ones assemble around the feeder. All of them, Sunny's little ones, Laura's two week old's and the remaining two wild mallards, eating drinking and enjoying the show .

Such little cutie pies and sooooo many of them. Happy to hear they can't get under that porch anymore so you can stay off your belly Frank, lol.

Update on the dux, the duxlings and everything:
I'm done with them all! I am going to give them all away! - I guess…
Yesterday afternoon and early evening was exhausting: Outside it was Roman Steam-Bath for free and Sunny's duxlings turned into a true burden.
  • They crawled through the smallest holes and went under the patio again. - A million times and because i "secured" the patio they could not come back out, basically i turned the patio into a duckling trap.
  • They fell into "bug-holes" and failed to get out.
  • Sunny walked them into the squash-garden where the cucumbers and the acorn-squashes tried to eat them - they got entangled in these plants hairy tendrils
  • They squeezed through chicken-wire (!) into the Pepper and Zucchini bed and guess what: The Zucchinis tried to eat them too!
I cannot remember how many times Harry came running to the Kitchen door, asking me to follow him outside and rescue some of his babies. Apparently ducks can only count to six, Sunny is okay when there's six ducklings around, but drakes can count to higher numbers. And every time he could not solve a duxling issue he came to me for help.

And the dragon baby must have some Blanca genes: It is a glutton! It ended up in the pellet-bucket and could not get back out again, peeping loud enough to alert the inhabitants of all three neighbor-states. Yes, that beeping you've heart yesterday afternoon in Ohio was my duckling!
I rescued the little one and the usual penalty for being a DD (dumb-duckling) is cuddle-time with the Boss-Drake (me), so i sat down with it into my recliner, calmed it down under my hollow hand and it liked that and took a nap. After time-out i wanted to release it back to the others, when somebody suddenly attached a running grinder with a wire-brush to my face, using a welding-clamp. Tell'ya, that grinder must be broken, 'cause it made some weird quacking noises…

I like to swap them all against a bag of flees! Any offers?

Wow, so now I know what that noise was yesterday. Frank they are giving you a run for your money. I am so glad mine are confined as I don't think I could put up with all of that. No wonder you want to swap them out. Good luck on finding takers, lol.
