I saw three nice black silkies at the livestock auction this morning. They went for four dollars per bird. I should have bought them and put them on eggbid.
IMO there is no chicken worth that kind of money-it could die tomorrow or be killed by a weasel. Assuming someone wanted a bird badly enough to spend that kind of money on a bird for breeding it would be foolish to spend it on an auction bird w/o knowing anything about it's breeding.
That said, that lookslike a pretty run of the mill Silkie.
I was really hoping the poster that has access to rare silkies would post some pics. I totally don't get this. I have a beautiful white silkie hen but I have no idea if I should get her insured (?). I'll take some pics for silkie experts to evaluate.

If you are unsure of your birds quality, then you could feel safe knowing she doesn't need insurance
Birds that are worth that kind of money are usually bought with that kind of money. I think we are all in tune that this situation is a fluke and someone is obviously overpaying for that chicken.
