1/4 egg and cheese sandwich?

Would you feed a flock of 9 a 1/4 of a grilled cheese with eggs on bread? I’ve been giving them veg and fruit leftovers and have given them some egg in the past.

Yes, that's a reasonable amount.

Egg is good for them and the protein in cheese is good but the salt isn't and it's probably a bit fatty.

Bread is empty starch. :)

Yes, I would probably give mine some thing like that. I have a flock of 10 and they love bread, so I give them a piece every now and then, but sometimes it gives them diarrhea and then I have to give them butt baths:( So I don’t give it to them too often! One piece between 10 birds is usually OK. I just like to give it to them because they love it!

Part of the reason I have a backyard flock is that I can feed them almost all our kitchen scraps and leftovers. I personally don't worry about what they eat as long as I don't overfeed them with just one item. If I have an old loaf of bread, I'll rip up a couple slices everyday and let them have that along with other scraps and leftovers. There are some people who only feed their chickens on restaurant waste food. So, probably not best well balanced feed option, but it works for them. I always have a good quality chicken layer feed available to them 24/7 hanging in my DIY PVC 5 gallon bucket feeder.

I think you will be fine. Chickens also love to eat meat and that is higher in protein. So don't be afraid to give them meat leftovers if you have some.

I only limit table waste, if I have a big family meal - that waste, I will spread out over a couple of days. I really don't worry about what I feed my chickens - but I have a large space and a dry climate. I toss it out there, and let them choose.

Yep, it matters how much kitchen scraps you have and how many chickens you have to share the bounty. With only Dear Wife and myself, we never have too many kitchen scraps for our 8 hens. I feed our chicken bucket in the kitchen every day to the girls. If I had a large family or few chickens, then I suppose I might have to ration feeding them scraps if we had too much on any particular day.
