I have a day old chick who doesn't stand just scoots and flap about on it's tummy. Is this splay leg or could it be something else - one of it's feet seems a bit twisted. It hatched by itself.

Can it stand up at all? what if you hold it, does it's legs stick out normally?

If I hold it up it seems to be able to hold weight on it's left leg. It holds the right leg up. It's such a cutie - I really want to help it be strong.

If it can't put weight on the leg at all, it might be slipped tendon
Very interesting i think you've hit on what it is. I've managed to bandage the joint and have got it in a sling. Will just have to keep up with trying to water and feed it.

Here is the chick in a sock suspended over a beer glass strapped in gently with vet wrap.

Lol, poor thing. Please update us how she gets on!

We decided to cull, we realised it wasn't something that was going to improve.
