17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Pics
Incubator holds 22, but I left one spot open for my thermometer. I was expecting 12-16 chicks…. Not 21. The oops was mine. I realize I don’t have to fill up the incubator but I just couldn’t resist setting those cute little eggs.
Interesting! lol
All of my eggs develop really well, but I keep losing some between day 14, and lockdown…
So, I don’t know what that’s about🤷‍♀️

Candled the quail eggs today. Two had cracks that I'd somehow missed and were leaking (got everything cleaned up and disinfected) and three were clear. But six are very much viable...their tiny tenants are bouncing off the walls. :D

And I know these are due to hatch well after easter, but I just had to add 12 more quail eggs to the incubator today, and then set 8 Narragansett turkey eggs under a very broody English Orpington.

Candled the whitings.....one definitely clear, 1 looks like an early quitter, rest doing great, eyes and movement readily visible. Candled the fibrocauna eggs, 1 good, 1 hard to see but finally got a little glimpse of some veins so 🤞. Moss Eggers have proven impossible(darkest of dark room, brightest light, every angle), save 1 which is doing well so here's hoping for the rest.

I will say, SO glad I stuck to a limit this time that fits in the auto turners.....so much easier than hand turning. Last time I set heavy, told myself there'd be a few clears and figured I would eliminate tjose after day 7, then move them to the turner but they all did great so I was stuck
