1 dead chicken, others sick.

Today I noticed one of my white bresse looking not so good. This afternoon she was dead. We just buried her.

There's a bit of hunching, ruffled feathers, weight loss, loss of appetite *even the muscovies*. It's been very wet with the snow melt off. The chicken vet said it sounds like an upper respiratory infection and we're treating with injected tylan right now.

Do we just dose with 1 time injection? I'm assuming treat absolutely every flock member, what about the ducks?

Are there any signs of respiratory infection--nasal or eye drainage or eye foam, sneezing or cough, swelling around the face or an eye, noisy breathing? The signs you describe above could also be coccidiosis if there is diarrhea with or without blood. To answer your question, Tylan injectable is given for 3 days for respiratory disease such as MG. It's definitely respiratory, the 3 days of tylan seem to have cleared everyone up. I was over enthusiastic about sweet pdz powder and that seems to be the cause of the outbreak. I will have to get the pdz granules instead next time to control ammonia and wetness issues.

One slw seems most affected, so she didn't go back out until this afternoon when it got into the low 60's and I snuggled her in with her flock mates (the cemanis).

It's not cocci, it was my fault not thinking of the pdz powder like de in the application. There was wheezy breathing and poops all looked fine. Thanks tho.

Btw it's the same slw that had curled toes at 5 weeks old that got hit the hardest with the respiratory thing. Of course she's one of my favorites b/c I already had to nurse and heal her up and she's very close to me from our previous experience with her unable to walk a few months back.
