1 month chicken keeps cutting top of feet with nails? what to do?

hi all! i’ve got a 1 month chicken and it appears he keeps cutting his own foot with his nails.

what can i do to clean and treat the cuts and how can i prevent it? is it ok to trim his nails so young? i just don’t want it to lead to an infection or something!

I've never had to trim a chicken's toenails, but I'm sure it would be safe to cut just a little off the tip, to make it less sharp. Chickens have a quick inside their toenail, just like dogs and cats do, so you should be careful not to cut too deep.

If chickens are able to scratch in the dirt, they often keep their own toenails short enough, but that may not be possible for a young chicken in January
