When I came home yesterday I my dogs where going nut there was a fox in the duck/goose pen. He got one of my geese I picked him up immediately and put him in the tub to have a better look at the wounds. they all seem to be not bad I was able to stop the bleeding. Last night the poor thing could not lift his head he looked like an ostrich when he stood up. He has been drinking water whole time. This morning he seemed a little better but still having hard time with his neck. I have him in the house in a crate. this after noon when I went to check on him he was standing up and his head was up too. yahhhh. its still wobbly but when I show him the cup of water he goes for it himself now and drinks I don't have to hold up his head. I am hoping he is getting better. Is there anything else I need to do for him? should I mix food in with the water??? should I still clean out wounds in case of infection or should I just let him heal his own?????? Any suggestions info would be greatly appreciated thanks

I'd for sure clean his wounds, put him in a tub of water and he can wash then apply something like triple antibiotic on his wounds [nothing with pain relief in it though] you don't want infection to set in. keep him inside till wounds heal or you may have to deal with maggots from flies laying their eggs in the wounds. and they are a killer. you can try mixing his feed with warm water and see if he'll eat some, what you have probably been seeing is shock. but sounds like he maybe coming out of it now. Please fix however the fox got in because once they have been in they will be back. You might look for some poultry vitamins to add to his water especially while he is recovering. So glad you got home when you did and was able to help your gosling. Please keep us updated on his progress.

I have used the iodine mixed with water I did put him in the tub let the water get above his feet he was not interested so I used the iodine with water mixed like iced tea color and poured over his wounds I did not wipe it off. I did buy some Neosporin non pain relief but was not sure if I should just let him help naturally or try and help it out. I did start to put some pellets in with the water the mush right in and stir it up when I check on him. he seems to be drinking it fine every time I check on him the water has gone down some. I also added some sugar I read somewhere that can help to. This happen at my fathers house I come here often for work and have to take the ducks and geese with me because they are so needed and if I have to stay a few days they need to come. I have moved everyone else into the chicken pen. Its a really nice one built off the ground with a inside and outside plenty of room. my guys are used to being with chickens so they don't seem to care I just put a small pool in there for them and I know they are safe. its been over 24hrs since the attack and he seems to be doing better so I have my fingers crossed and hope he is ok. and I will be keeping him inside in his container is large enough for him to move around but not too big so he can hurt himself. I am also pooper scooping the bedding every

time I check on him to keep it super clean.

Good for you and sounds like he is doing much better. Keep doing what your doing and I think he has a really good chance of getting over this, and looks so sweet too. I think I'd use the iodine till you see the wounds scabbing over the air can get to it better without the neo on it. especially if your keeping it in and away from the flies. Let us know how is is doing.

Yes thought so to checked up on it and foxes are not just night time hunters they are opertunity hunters but goose is quarentened just in case I also read somewhere that rabies is a mammal disease birds can't get it not sure of its true

Birds cannot get rabies but you handling your bird that got bitten can transmit it to you, But I have seen foxes out in daylight here also, now Raccoons out in the day time that is something to be concerned about. We are beginning to see rabies again in Raccoons in our area of Western NC we had a very serious epidemic of it about 8 yrs ago nearly wiped out the coon species. now it seems it's back again, last time the gov stepped in and dropped some kind of smelly stuff with the vaccine in it trying to keep it from going any further west. hopefully it worked.
Hope your gosling is feeling much better today.

That is right- foxes are out during the day all the time. It would be raccoons to worry about if they attacked during the day.

I have a gander that survived a dog attack that tore his entire chest open. We kept him in the house in a dog crate (so he could come in and out), I sprayed his wounds daily with Bactine (it was too big to do much else) and every other day I let him take a bath in a tub with a little Oxine AH in it. That was 4 years ago- the only way you'd know he was injured is the ruffle in his chest feathers :)

Sounds like you are doing the right stuff though. Your little one is lucky to have you.

Glad to hear your gosling attacked by the fox is doing better.
I use to have a lot of ducks and the foxes would do what I call a drive by. They would come and run through the yard and grab a duck like we were a drive through a drive though meals. I lost 48 ducks and 3 geese from them. So they had to be taken care of.......
