We are 1st time grandparents to a single (so far) broody hen-hatched chick. The chick hatched last night, it is cool this morning and there is no sign of the baby. I'm assuming it is under mama as it is only in the 70's here right now. I hope she didn't smother it!

There are other eggs that we hope will hatch too.

Meanwhile, are we supposed to dip the baby's beak in water or show it food?

How long do we leave it alone before worrying?

How long do we leave the other eggs in with her?

Thanks!

If the mama will let you, stick you hand under her and make sure the chick is alive, it Will Not be smothered, but maybe got too cold, maybe lift her up momentarily. The mama should teach it to eat and drink just fine after the majority have hatched! good luck!!
