I'm not sure what to do, but 1 of my chickens has lost some weight & her comb is slightly pale. Her appetite has decreased somewhat, but eats some feed. I can feel her stomach/chest bone & can tell she lost some weight.

The veterinarian I usually go isn't very helpful & I'm hesitant to go over there again after having a few experiences where he hasn't helped & just going through the motions. He seems to be unhappy & it might not care about his clients & patients.

What should I do for my chicken?

Pictures?

How old is she, and has she molted in the past few months? Does she lay eggs right now? Have you wormed her recently? Can you check her crop in the morning before she eats or drinks, and tell us if it is empty, full, firm, doughy, or squishy? If you have any pictures of her or her poops, that could be helpful. Also check her skin for any lice or mites under her vent and belly.

She is about 4 years old. She recently shedded feathers. She is not laying eggs. She hasn't been wormed. I can't check her crop in the morning. If I remember, I can check for lice or mites.

Why can you not check her crop? If you leave very early you can take her off the roost before light and check then, or you can crate her for a day and check that way. Crop function is important, if the crop is not emptying, it's necessary to know. If she recently molted, she may not yet be finished and sometimes they don't eat well during it. Internal parasites are a common reason for weight loss as well, getting a look at her droppings might be helpful as well. Lice and mites can severely weaken a bird, make them anemic, and sometimes kill them. There are many variables, the more information you can provide, the better help/advice can be given.
