Bought 4 chicks on 4/13 knowing one was sickly/weak. It eats and drinks but stumbles. The first night it made it through and seemed to be on the mend but has since regressed. It lays down and can’t get back up or rolls onto it’s back and appears stuck like a flipped turtle. When righted it will stay upright for a while but will eventually get stuck laying down or flipped over. When up it seems clumsy as it stumbles around in short bursts. Also, notably it’s beak is red in color compared to the other three chicks and hasn’t gotten any bigger. Like I said though… eats drinks and cleans its self and seems interested in things going on around it but sleeps a lot.

It may be a weaker chick or has been suffering from shipping stress. The chances of it living are a bit low, but you can try to help it along. Check for any pasty butt, and keep that clean. Offer a couple of drops of Poultry NutriDrench daily, or use some chick electrolytes and vitamins in the water. Dip it’s beak into water as often as you can letting it swallow. Offer some chick crumbles mad wet with water. Also give s little egg yolk. Many times when these symptoms start, it can be too late, but I hope that you can help.

Discovery, the chicks breastbone/chest appears to be sitting to the right of the chicks body not center. Perhaps this explains the weakness and clumsiness before. Chick has also stopped walking completely because of the off balance caused by the deformity. Chick shows no signs of pain so I think it was hatched this way? Overall seems happy and chick is still eating and drinking on own provided I now have to move it close to the food/water so it can reach.

Update… it ended up being an abscess the dissolved on its own. The chick is back to normal like it was never sick.
