3 weeks ago (I think) I had 11 eggs hatch. Lost one (I think it got trampled) but the other 10 are thriving. 9 are huge and growing like weeds. #10 is an adorable little gray thing who just.won't.grow. Its healthy, fights its way in for food and is very active. Just small. I'm not sure of the mix but I'm guessing this one is an egyptian fayoumi/white silkie cross. I just don't know what to do. The other chicks are ready for "chickville" but this little one would probably squeeze thru the chicken wire, its so small. And not growing.

Is it possible for a chick to stay really, really tiny? I'm talking dove tiny.

Could is be he's a bantam chick? Or maybe just a runt. I get a runt everynow and then I actually have one right now. He's smaller than the rest and way behind on the feathering. The rest are the same age and 95% feathered and I would say he's about 70% feathered.

I had one like that. She just wasn't growing at the same rate as her brooder mates. I started taking her out of the brooder and feeding her a mash of chick starter and water several times a day. I'm pretty sure that it helped. The extra attention definitely made her extra friendly.

Good luck with her!

we have a liitle gray one like that too! he's tiny! My son grabed him out of the farmers brooder, he was in with the boff orps. not sure what he is... my daughter thinks he may be a runt. I did'nt know if that was possible in the chicken world. I'll try special mash and lovin' on him more and see if he can get some size to him (or her).
