Excuse me if I am incorrect as this is my only my 2nd round of chicks. I have a 1 week old red-yokohoama that still has the "black thing" still attached below the vent. Am I correct that this is part of the yoke that did not get absorbed? It is a small spot and the chick eats/drinks/plays and is very active. Will this fall off or is it abnormal to be there this long? Thanks!

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that's normal or bad.
Mine one time had that, except it came off after 48 hours.
Do you have a pic?

This is the best picture I could get in the dark. It is a hard black spot that is below the vent? This chick is 1.5 weeks old. Can anyone give me any info on this?

I can't tell much from the picture.
Is it stuck to the chicks fluff?

Is it the kind of thing that you could pull off/cut off, or is it connected to the vent?

No it is not on the vent, it is below it. Thats why I thought maybe the yoke did not get absorbed. It seems to be on there well and I wasnt sure if I should try and get it off or wait and let it fall off. Has anyone else had this issue?

I *think* it's just the bellybutton thingy. It hasn't fallen off because it's stuck to the feather fluff.

I bet you are right. Should I try to wet it and get it off or just wait for it to fall off? Thank you so much for the help, I was so worried for my little one!

I would just leave it alone. It will eventually just fall off.

Oh, that's good it's not connected to the vent. That was my concern.

If it's stuck to the fluff it isn't a problem. But if you want to hurry up the process of it falling off, just wet the area, like you said. That might help it.

If not, I would just snip it off with scissors.
That's what I have done with many of my chicks when they have stuff stuck to them, but mostly because the other chicks will peck at it.
