I got this chick on Friday and noticed a small wound on her face Saturday. It's possible it happened during shipment, but I didn't notice it.

1 week old Ameraucana, right side of face. Eye had been shut, cleaned daily. Today significant swelling on side of face. I'm not sure if the would is her eye, or right below her eye.

She is still eating, drinking, normal poop.

I want to know what I can do to help with the possible infection going on. Not sure what is safe for 1 week old chicks.

Thank you for advice. If there is a good post or link to get more information, if appreciate it.

I would clean it with warm Epsom salt water and hold a warm rag like a compress on it for a minute or two and see if you can see its eye. You could rinse its eye out with saline solution.

Terramycin ointment is for eye infections. If it seems to have one, I'd get that and put it on its eye. The warm compresses might help it though as maybe it just got scratched while in shipping, although that looks pretty swollen and may be infected.

If you cannot get Terramycin eye ointment, I have used plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment in a pinch. Apply it 2-3 times daily after cleaning the eye with saline or the warm wet compress. Did the chick come with other chicks from a hatchery or from a breeder? Make sure the chick gets enough to eat and drink since it is basically slightly on one side for now.
