HI,
I have 4 1 week old cochin banties. I was curious about one thing, I know that they cannot be sexed right now because they are so young but was wondering about their peeps. 3 of the 4 just peep, however one little guy (smallest of them) makes a different noise. It does not peep more of a cooing noise. Really kind of weird, and sounds nothing like the other 3. I was wondering if this is some kind of an indicator that maybe its a he? This one is more of the frisky one, runs around like a crazy little thing, jumps at the duckling that was housed with them but no longer is, and likes to dig in the food every time I fill it! The other 3 just snuggle all the time. Its like he is on a 5 hour energy drink and forgot to share! Really funny to watch though. Thought I would ask. This is our first year doing birds. So far its going good, we have two bigger ducks (Duckie and Splotch) and two bigger turkeys (Tuckie and Tommie) that we have moved to a heated coop outside, then we have a younger duckling (Furry Feet) that is housed with two wynadottes (Sarah and Bear) for the moment. When he is big enough he will be housed with the other ducks, but they were big enough that they could squash him so he is with the chicks for now. (well I'm fairly certain its a she but we will see). Then we have the 4 banties, Thing 1, Thing 2 (two little white cochin banties), Mist, and Red. (Yes I name ALL my animals!!! I also have two bunnies names Whiskey and Jack... pun intended). Anyways what do you think? Could this be roo behavior or is it just an energetic little chick?
I was going to attach a video but I don't have the formats it wants! Sorry but I can only explain it as a kind of cooy noise while the others are peeps.
