Hello all!
I have a 1 year old cochin hen that seems a little off this morning. I may be over reacting but I figured in the chance I'm not I want to be vigilant.
It started this morning where all my other hens woke up and were out in the run and she was still on the roost. I took her off and sent her out into the run.
I noticed her tail drooping. She seems to be walking okay but she seems groggy. I threw scratch out for everyone and she went about eating so she has an appetite. I looked up the signs of being egg bound and I don't see any signs of lameness or pulsating tail. That doesn't mean I've crossed that off the list. I will be waiting to see if she lays today. She has fresh water and plenty of food. I did check her and everyone else for lice and mites and they are clean.
She just is standing in the middle of the run with half lidded eyes. Is there anything I should look for besides waiting to see if she lays? If she doesn't lay I already have Epsom salt and bucket at the ready.
She also is walking low to the ground with kind of a tucked in neck.
The only new thing I've put in their pen is cabbage which they've never had before.
I should note I have another hen sitting on eggs so idk if she's starting to go broody but I honestly doubt it.
