10 Baby Wood Ducks (1st thought they were Mallards)

Pics
Going to be predators no matter where you release them. Just have to hope and pray they will make it.

I know. Just hope I don't end up at the Pearly Gates and have 5 angry Wood Ducks looking down at me. "We were safe! We had plenty of food! We were happy! And this is the b*tch that sent us out into the cruel dangerous world." :barnie

;)

They know that they don't like dogs, and they go over to the other side of the run when the dogs walk past. Actually, they run away from anything that is different. Interestingly, the web site that gave me such great advice also says that it's a good idea to leave grains near the location of release. If I did that, I think I'd be setting them up for a fox attack. I'm crossing that recommendation off my list.

Went to visit the site where I'll be releasing the babies. Only caught sight of 1 duck as it flew (very fast) into the reeds (probably a wood duck). The pond is surrounded by homes, but there's a thick border of vegetation around most of the pond. There are only 2 small places where you can walk to the water.

It's not very big, but it has a lot of duck weed, and I'm told that the wood ducks like this site.

The site is somewhat residential.
