10+ Barnevelder hatching eggs

Johan does have really nice pure import stock.

I would like to know why the chicks that are pictured are showing clear V markings on their heads? Barnevelder chicks do not have those markings. Johan's stock doesn't have V markings. Welsummers do have V's on their heads as chicks.

With all due respect, we are not chicken genetic experts therefore we cannot answer your specific question. We are able and glad to answer the question as to our breed stock. And yes our Yohan's were a fantastic addition to our flock last year. We really enjoy working with "our pets" to improve quality [both bird and egg color] with every generation we hatch.

After reading your post we looked at a couple here in our hatching pool/brooder and shot a pic. This one does not have the "v" markings. Same hens, same roosters. Go figure? Like I said, we don't claim to be geneticists, just good chicken farmers.

I'm not a genetic expert either, but your may want to keep working the Johan's you have because they are truely nice Barnevelders. I would not keep any resulting chicks with V's or at least band them and keep track of them. That way you can make sure they have traits you want before adding them back to you're breeder flock. I don't think the chicks with the V's will carry the right genetics for the double lacing and correct color.

Good luck

We agree 100%, as with life when you deal with chickens day to day is nothing more than a work in progress toward a goal however we really enjoy it!

Do you by chance sell your Barney hatching eggs?

Folks this is an auction not a breed discussion. If you are not interested in buying move on. If you are wanting to flame the OP, move on. If you want to discuss breeds, go to the Breeds forum. Thanks.
