You can take your Black Ameraucanas and breed them to Lavender to make Split Lavender. These will for all appearances be black, but carry the lav gene. To help improve the Lavender line it is necessary to breed back to black.

But what if I use Lav with Blue? Or Splash? Does it work the same?

This is where I confuse myself...because Lav of any breed can be crossed to black to result in Split Lav. I was told recently that I can take my Splash Silkie back to my Lav Silkies to improve Lav type. This threw a royal confusing wrench in what I thought I knew! To play it "safe"...I will only cross lav to black.
