Hello,
Need some help figuring out the breed of two of my 10 week old chicks. They came in a 10 chick batch of rare breed chickens from Hoover hatcheries. 19945D4C-D06C-47E4-9F75-F535A03F3E19.jpeg 4FB7F998-B75D-42B5-A89E-45CA8BC7A535.jpeg B4097859-B2CB-4DAC-BEA0-4DCCAAB6A547.jpeg

The trouble with identifying Hoover's rare breed assortment is that some of them aren't actually breeds but hybrids. And hybrids are variable. There is no standard for olive eggers, sapphire olive eggers, prairie bluebell eggers, starlight green eggers, midnight Marans, and a couple of others. So it's really a guessing game with those. But they all look healthy and should be good layers. That's the most important thing.

Thanks that’s good information. Yes all 10 are healthy. I ended up with 3 welsummer, 3 speckled Sussex, a cuckoo maran and the three unidentified. The 3 unknowns are actually the calmest and have the sweetest disposition.

Hoover hatchery just sent an answer to the picture I sent them....they are thinking a chocolate Orpington. I have to say that they do look orpingtonish and they are very calm.

They do have the right plumage color for that, but the legs should be white for Orps. But then again, hatchery birds aren't always perfect for breed type, so that could well be. If so, you lucked out. Orpingtons are sweet birds.
