Hi, one of my 10-week-old ducks seems to be shivering after going for a swim in my pond ( being supervised ), and when he gets out he seems to be shivering and seems to stay wet for quite a while after swimming, I am really worried that his oils aren't working properly.
If anyone can help or has any advice it would be greatly appreciated

Do you have a current picture of him? Is he fully feathered? Does he have any down left? How long does he appear to be wet for after swimming?

Hi he is mainly fully feathered with just a little bit of fluff under his wings, he stays wet for about 40 mins after but it’s just his chest and belly which stays wet, his back doesn’t really get wet. would you like a picture of him after a swim or dry?

Here is a picture of him after a swim, he doesn't look wet but his belly is and he is shivering @HollowOfWisps @MissLydia

Pretty Muscovy! Mine also have the wet bellies after swimming. Muscovy aren't as water resistant as the mallard breeds, I've found. Maybe restrict the swimming and just provide deep water for head dunking?

I swear my whole flock is waterlogged right now with all the rain and humidity.

It is pretty hard to restrict swimming as at day time they are allowed out and they can wander anywhere around the garden and pond and I put them away at night time in a fox-proof house. restricting his swimming would mean he wouldn't have a lot of space to roam during the day. would it be a good idea to by a large duck enclosure so they don't have access to the water and i just give a paddling pool

If you can go that route and buy or build a duck enclousure I'd do that. Chilling after time in the pool is an inclination he isn't ready for those water temps and outside temps when wet.
