100 Broilers and Fermented Feed Project

I'm almost wondering if I should go to TSC this week and pick up 10 more Cornish. I'm not planning on doing another run of Cornish until the beginning of September, so they won't be ready until November. I don't think 16 chickens will last until then.

HMMM!

Sounds like you need to get on down there.

Since I"m at my last run with these 5 year old Cornish (it feels like I have had them that long!), I wonder if I should get a few more myself.

I have my other half stopping by there on the way home from work already, I needed another bag of pine shavings. Trying to get him to answer his phone! Haha. They have been getting their chicks in on a Wednesday, lately though.

Since the 16 outside are about to go into a tractor, I will have the brooder space...

I think we can be our own worst enemy sometimes! We're getting a lab puppy first weekend of April, I'm trying to fatten the Cornish pigs, plus other chicks in the other brooder, and I'm pregnant. Oh, and my other kids.

I've lost the plot.

I do this..."walk with me I have to do blah blah blah...watch out for poop! Hand me that thingy so I can clean poo off it please? Oh watch out for the cat, she's shady...how much can you lift? I have this thing I need to move on the rabbitry..." No one ever can stay...

Of course the pullet that is showing some wear on her back has also developed swollen feet-- her time is limited . . . . so I set every egg!!

Unless I'm not eating a lot of this broiler meat per meal, I just got started on the breasts today for lunch. I have been enjoying the legs, thighs and wings over the last 2 days. Uh, I think this bird was too much for just me. I'm stuffed and it looks like I still have 2 more meals from the 3+ pounder broiler. :/ Looks like I will be cooking the 2 lb'ers in the future for me and only cook the 3lb'ers when I have relatives and friends over. Believe it or not, the neck bone has SOOOOOO much meat on it. So, it looks like I can eat off of the 3 pounders for 3 days if I want. Now that I know that, I will have to divide it up (the 3 lb broilers) before freezing. I will cut in half down the middle and freeze so that I can cook it that way, so that I don't have so much left over. :/

That looks AMAZING! A 3lb chicken could usually feed us one big chicken dinner, then leftovers stripped off for another meal. And bones into the stock pot. Yum!

Thanks.

I don't think I will be able to eat all of it tomorrow. I guess I"ll have chicken salad tomorrow.

I'm having this same debate with myself but we are stalling til late July then letting nature brood a few batches, but even with what we will be processing this weekend, I think I need more, least 10 lol :th
