So happy with my purchase of Bourbon Red turkey eggs from Patty (onthespot)! I got 20 of them and all of them are fertile. Now I just need to get some Midget Whites and I'll be all prepared for Thanksgiving.

I have a question too. I understand that Bourbon Reds fly. What does everyone do to deal with that? Does anyone ever pinion their poults? And how would that affect selling them for meat?

Congratulations!!! I have had really fantastic fertility here at home too! I just hatched my two first poults today.... MAN it feels good!

I keep mine in pens with chain link tops. You can cut their flight feathers on one side to help with flying. I think pinioning would ruin the look for roast thanksgiving turkey. For your own table, fine but for selling... I think I'd go with trimming and some sort of flight retardant netting or something over their run.

I am driving up to Redding tomorrow morning to pick up 15 Bourbon Red eggs!! I can't wait and couldn't wait for my pair to get to work in the egg department. We've seen them breed a couple times, but no eggs yet. They are new to me, but I know they were a very prolific pair last year. Happy Hatching!!!
