I'm not sure what caused the chicks death, but you will be in my thoughts. I know how it feels because I just lost 3 of my silkies last week to raccoons.
You said you are putting the new ones in a brooder, but the other chick didn't occupy it, where was the chick that passed living? Was the area cleaned before he was put in it? Is it possible that he had mites or lice?
Sometimes they don't do well alone...we had bought some chickies, and my friend wanted one...she has raised other babies and knows how, so she took her home and two days later she stopped eating and just peeped all the time...she was warm enough and had been eating fine...i brought her back to my place and put her in with her friends...within hours she was eating, active and lived fine! I think she was lonely
so i kept her until they were ready to move outside, then my friend came to get her...weird huh?!? I'm sure you will do better with a group of them!
Yea see thats what I was thinking....they are social animals and do not thrive when alone....
yes the place was clean and no there was nothing wrong with the chick....thanks and it's fine for all your questions..It was in a stock watering trough...bought brand new like 3 days prior...
I'm so sorry. :aww Your new little arrivals will soon cheer you and I am sure things will go just fine. You did what you could, and beyond that nature has to take its own course. Take care!!
did you make sure he found the water, you have to dip their beaks in the water so they know where it is. I lost one the hard way too. Just a thought. Sorry for your loss!
