So we had our first over 100 degree day in Northern California on Monday. We had ice to add to their water, frozen water bottles around their run, shade, spraying water around the outside of the run, cold watermelon... all tips I got from here. Eventually they were panting so heavily that I went for the cool water foot dip, and I HAD to share my barred rock's reaction! She stayed put and looked at us with a mix of confusion and betrayal... the rest of the girls either loved or hated it. On another note, we will be setting up misters and are getting a freezer for the garage to keep our ice levels up for future scorchers.

I have these massive reusable ice packs that I store in our deep freeze. My girls love them, I place them in their coop and run during scorchers. The great thing is, I just wash them off and refreeze. They have been awesome.
