I have three, 11 day old Salmon Faverolles. The two with brown feathers are shier than their larger sibling with zero tail feathers and teeny little wing feathers growing in a much darker color.

Am I right to suspect I’ve got two pullets and a cockerel? Or, could ‘they’ just be slower to feather? I see no black shoulder or foot feathers yet. Maybe it’s still too early?

Below: Suspected cockerel at front with the very short black tipped wing feathers. Suspected pullets at the back with light brown wings behind the white polish.

Below: The ‘sisters’. Same tail and wing feathers, light brown. Ignore white polish.

Any insight appreciated! :)

In my experience, the male SF will begin to get Black (not dark brown) chest feathers…often they start to show up after 3 weeks. So, keep an eye on the upper chest area.

Also, they will get a more obvious comb pretty early. So, if you have a male, I’ll guess the comb will look very suspicious by 4 weeks or so based on differences with the girl’s combs. This is one breed you don’t have to wait long to figure out gender.

They all look so different! Any thoughts?!

Number 3 looks like a cockerel the other two look like pullets to me another week should tell for sure. Males tend to be a week behind females in feather development in my experience.
