11 eggs in lockdown! UPDATE: They're HATCHING! We have babies!

Yay! I want to hatch geese!

Lots of action happened in the last few hours.. The first egg began to zip and two more eggs pipped! This is the best feeling.

Bock, you should definitely try! As I like to say, what's another goose or ten?

..I think I hear peeping! I'm off to stare some more.

I now have 8 pips! One made a big giant hole in the side of the egg before 5 am this morning and I can see its beak. I'm hoping it'll be okay to hatch. Everyone else is zipping without actually pushing out the shell, which I guess conserves moisture in the egg.. The first egg has been pipped for over 24 hours now, so I'm watching it. Hopefully I'll have a gosling soon.

We have one hatched (the first one that pipped) and one getting the top of the egg off now! Kinda confused here though.. From what I'm seeing, Toulouse + Chinese = SADDLEBACKS?! o.o

I am thinking I will have to intervene with the one that made a giant hole. I think he's just too big to move correctly or is just confused.. But I think 5 of them will be out by morning. The one with the giant hole is actually fluffing out in his shell.

Anyways, I'm so excited! I took some pictures and will post them soon!

We now have 3 with their heads out (it's a bit cramped to worry about bodies being out, haha)! The new two are also saddleback looking? Pink beaks with black bits, yellow down with greyish spots. Isn't that weird?! I am hoping the gosling that didn't pip/zip correctly will hold on until the morning when I can open the incubator up. It has a grey beak and grey down, I'm pretty sure. I'm wondering about these colors.. Maybe I produced a new variety of sexlinked goose? Haha, kidding.

The first one hatched.. It knows it must be admired by those on BYC.

Third one that hatched (the second one refused its closeup)..

And my poor little grey gosling.

I hope it'll be okay.. It only began to hatch sometime between 1 and 5 AM yesterday morning. So, less than 24 hours since pip. But by the time I first saw it, it had a big hole. I can see most of its head but not its eyes..

So, I'm going to take one last peek at the peeps and go to bed.. I'll update y'all in the morning!

They are beautiful babies!

I miss when my geese were babies, they were so adorable AND they made the cutest little noises! You are so lucky! Best of wishes for the baby in the last pic.

I would try to pull some of the membrane off of his face and squirting the membrane with a water bottle. Thanks for the pictures.

Yeah, make sure his nostrils are free and he can breathe, and keep the membrane moist. Assisting in this manner, very delicately and gently, can be a good thing, and live-saving.
