11 eggs in lockdown! UPDATE: They're HATCHING! We have babies!

We now have 5 hatched, three of which are in a brooder next to the incubator. We have 4 saddlebacks and 1 grey. I have been working on the one that did not hatch properly and zipped it the majority of the way. I think I will have to finish the rest later, but I got nervous because it looked like it still had yolk.. Little did I know that, upon inspection of shells, the other goslings were leaving gross yolky stuff as well. I believe another one or two will hatch if the other two eggs don't pip. The eggs have been rolled around by the three that were in the incubator last night, so I'm watching everyone carefully. Anyways, I'll post pictures soon and probably try to hatch the other one in a couple of hours. I love my babies.

Well, I hatched the gosling, whose name is Pineapple. He was glued into the shell and that wasn't his only problem. He's HUGE compared to the other goslings. Seems like he takes after his daddy, my toulouse. He is now in the incubator drying off/recovering. I am hoping he makes it.

We have named the other goslings.. Marmalade, Sugar, Honey, Jello, and Lemonade. Jello and Lemonade are still in the incubator with Pineapple. The three of them are trying to cuddle up together, it's very cute.

Pictures soon, I promise!

I am so glad Pineapple is okay. I also think it is pretty cool that you named one Marmalade, people always tease me when I have a chicken named Marmalade.

PICTURE TIME! Jello was in in the incubator while I was taking these, so he is not pictured. He has now been taking out because he was harassing Pineapple and jostling eggs that are still hatching. I dried him off with the hairdryer on warm and stuck him in on the hot side of the brooder (incubator temp).

Here is Marmalade (coincidentally the only one I could get a decent picture of):

And here is the saddleback crew (Marmalade is the lightest with two splashy spots, Sugar is the second lightest with one spot, Honey is the second to darkest with a greyish saddle, and Lemonade is the darkest that looks the least fluffed up.)

And here are the parents..

Luna, the father, who I got fresh out of the incubator:

And Cho, Ginny, and Neville, the mothers.. Lockhart is in these pictures too, but Luna refuses to cover her.

I'll add more pictures later, but I thought progressive pics of the parents might help quench your thirst.

A 7th gosling hatched. The 8th is working on it, last time I checked.

Pineapple is hanging on and we will probably give him a warm wipe-down layer because he is so covered in sticky membrane that he can't fluff up. After that, we'll dry him with the hairdryer and see how he does. He's starting to move around more.

Thanks! We had another hatch, one that pipped yesterday, another saddleback who is now named Mango. The grey that hatched earlier was named Blueberry. We put 11 in lockdown so once these two get fluffed up I'm going to put my ear to the other 3 eggs/candle and see if anything's happening.

Pineapple is finally looking like she will make it. I went to clean her off and she was STUCK to the bottom of the incubator. STUCKSTUCKSTUCK.

I had to remove the incubator tray and wet her from the bottom to get her out. She was pulling the ENTIRE time. My little girl is a fighter! Anyways, after that, I got some egg and gross membraney stuff and unstuck her feathers. I also dried her back off with my hairdryer. I now have her, Mango, and Blueberry in the same brooder box. They had to be removed and dried so I could get Pineapple out. Everyone is looking good! Two of the last eggs probably won't hatch, but the last one is internally pipped. I have no idea if it is still alive.. I felt it move in my hand when I had to take it out of the incubator, but not when I put it back in. I am waiting now. Waiting.. Waiting.. Waiting..

Hopefully the next update will be good.
