11 rescued hens need help

Bless you for caring and acting. I had a rescue horse who lived to be 38 and we had to put him down a month ago today. We had him for 22 years and he was such a joy to us. Now my hens are the occupants of the barn- he adored them and would call them over and let them peck at his muzzle through the hardware cloth on the run. Even if you lose one or two, and maybe you won't, you are paying a huge act of kindness forward and others will learn from your dear heart.

antibacterial spray for birds?? What/where could I find this? I have been using Neosporin and it's difficult to get in the area's where it's needed and a spray would be great. I do have Bou-Kote, but heard that really hurts. Is there something out there that wouldn't hurt them?

I wonder if you could use bactine or a peroxide rinse. Mix some in a bottle with water???

that is so horrible someone keep them like that! I am also glad you could save them.

Maybe some poly vit from the drug store, mix with yogart(plain) and sprinkle feed on top. Yogart will help with cleaning and healing digestive tract. Vits will boost them.

i would start to spinkle sevin dust every where as a preventitive measure. Coops, runs, all your chickens coat!

What jerks!

Checked over the girls today and couldn't find any lice or mites on them. I love Eprinex.

Everyone is eating happily. Lots of happy hen noises out there. They even layed me an egg today. They already know that I am their source of food - so they come running. I let them 'graze' for 1/2 hour today - which they absolutely love. I bribed them back into their fenced area with a couple of cherry tomatoes.

I tried to take some pics today, but I apparently pushed something I wasn't supposed to and I don't know how to change it - love technology! Hopefully I can figure it out - you guys will freak when you see these pictures.

How are these chickens doing? I've been wondering about them since i first read this and just did a search to find this thread again. would love to hear an update and i hope all is well. God bless your kind heart!

Small quantities of canned cat food can help when they are getting their feathers back. Dry will work too. We use cat food after molts. Don't overdo it though.

With a case like this (and winter looming ahead which means you have to get them recovered before they are confronted with cold stress and temp swings from the changing season) I do not think it advisable at all to use cat food as a source of extra nutrition/vitamins (too much salt for one thing!). I know it will be an extra cost (but you can us4e for your "normal flock when the seasons turn and they will need it too) but do consider getting AviaCharge 2000 (you can purchase this online from McMurry) > this is the best I know of to help get their systems back on track and deal with the deficiencies (do also give polyvisol enfamil in addition to this for two weeks)
offer a live culture yogurt free choice daily and add some sunflower seed hearts to their feed.
I think for punishment they should be locked in that chicken coop for a while.
