she is a young pullet...looks to be only 3-4 months old...that is the reason she is not laying yet she is still a bit too young...but with in the next couple of months she should start laying the reason her face turned red is because she is producing hormones now and preparing her body to lay eggs...the roost is where they are supposed to sleep you don't want them sleeping in the nesting boxes because when they sleep in there they will poop in there and then in the mornings when they lay eggs they will lay the eggs in the poop and you will have poopy eggs...the only time a hen should stay in the nesting box in the night is when she is broody (wanting to hatch eggs) and if they are broody they know that they are not supposed to poop on the eggs so they will hold it until they get down to eat and drink one per day but again this pullet is too young to lay eggs much less go broody...she looks very healthy and I see nothing wrong with her...she looks very happy!

Thank u so much for ur responce. Should I take out the nesting box until then or just leave it.
do you have any laying hens? if you don't I would take them out for now...you don't want any of your chickens getting in the habit of sleeping in the nesting boxes.

I have the nesting boxes open all the time, our girls rarely go in there, and they aren't close to laying yet. When we first put them in the coop, they did sleep and poop in them.

BUT we trained them to roost by putting at least one chicken on each roost, and now they know the drill! The boxes have yet to be cleaned of all the poop that remains in them but not till they get close to laying.
